Battery data stays local by default.
WhatBattery has no in-app analytics. Anonymous wear comparison is optional and off by default. This policy explains the limited cases where the app or website communicates with another service.

Data processed on your Mac
WhatBattery reads battery, power, charger, device, accessory, and process-energy information locally. Pro history is stored locally on the Mac. This information is not uploaded automatically.
Bluetooth
If you grant Bluetooth access, WhatBattery uses it to read battery levels from connected accessories. The readings remain local. You can deny or revoke the permission in macOS Settings.
Connected iPhone and iPad
When a device trusts the Mac, WhatBattery can request battery diagnostics over that local USB or Wi-Fi connection. No WhatBattery app runs on the device, and the battery response is not sent to WhatBattery's servers.
Licence activation
Pro activation contacts the licensing service to validate the key and enforce the two-Mac activation limit. The service processes the licence key and an installation identifier needed for activation. It does not receive battery readings or history.
Update checks
The app contacts the GitHub Releases API at launch and every six hours while running to check for a newer version. No battery or hardware readings are added to the request. Update notifications can be disabled in Settings.
Optional anonymous wear comparison
If you explicitly opt in, WhatBattery can contribute one reading per week containing the Mac model identifier, cycle count rounded down to the nearest 100, health percentage, and a coarse age value. It excludes serial numbers, device names, OS version, location, and licence identifiers. Contributions are retained for no more than 13 months. You can opt out at any time.
Reports and exports
Reports, exports, and backups are created only when requested and saved to a location you choose. WhatBattery does not upload them.
Website and checkout
The marketing site is served through GitHub Pages. Standard technical request information may be processed by the hosting provider. Pro checkout is handled by Stripe, which processes the payment and purchaser details needed to complete the transaction. Stripe's own privacy policy applies to that processing.
Children
WhatBattery is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. The app does not knowingly collect children's personal information.
